New Works On My Blog

I have added some new pieces to my blog within the last few days and thought you might like to look at them. I've been doing some digital collage and a bit of painting with Painter 8 digital watercolor (see Bo Diddely and Clapton.) I enjoy doing these and posting explanations of how I do them, some with more detail than others. Comments are always welcome!

Valiant

I often take a walk downtown in the evenings for a breather, almost always the same route, about 2 miles. Over the years there have been landmarks, constants in a sea of change. One has been this Valiant, sometimes I won't see it for a month or so, and wonder if it has finally gone. The other night it was parked under a street light and I took the first picture of it. Tried to make it speedier in the painting with David Gell's Living oil sponges. Thanks for looking.

Today's Travels-Stonehenge

Today we got up very early and drove to Stonehenge wanted to be there for the best light and fewer crowds. Again we managed to dodge the weather and had no rain all day! Tonight may be a different story.

As many of you know Stonehenge is unique prehistoric culture now lost in time. The monument its self evolved between 3, 000 BC and 1,600 BC. It is aligned with the midsummer sunrise and midwinter sunset. It still remains a mystery as to its exact purpose. I feel convinced that it helped the inhabitants determine the best time to plant and harvest. It just seemed logical based on seeing other monuments such as this in Arizona which also were aligned to the sun and stars.

It is fun to listen to the mythical stories about Stonehenge such as King Arthur's final resting place.

We also traveled through Amesbury to Pewsey where we hiked up to see on of the white horses which is carved into the mountain side. This is also beautiful country with many sheep grazing on the pastures.

Tomorow it is off to Oxford, can't wait!

Cheers,
Karen

Revised Lost Love

I was looking at one of Dragan's painting and this one came to mind. I went back and revised it.
It speaks to me of grief that may never end. It reminds me of a couple of Ladies I have known who could never move beyond their loss.
I asked myself do we ever really move on or does the stain of loss and grief stay within us forever. Prehaps it only goes into hiding until a quiet moment allows us to relive it?
I don't really know.

Problems With Microsoft Windows 7 And Intuos 4 Driver

Not sure why this is occurring now because I've had Windows 7 for a month or more, but now my pen doesn't work (mouse does). I researched it on the internet and apparently other people have had these issues, but can't find a permanent fix. Every time I turn my computer off and start again I have to download the most recent driver for my Wacom first. Has anyone else had any problems with this??

Greetings From Salisbury

Time to check in with all of you and to let you know that we are having such a good time here in the UK. Today we are in Salisbury and enjoyed walking around the town and through the Cathedral. I am always amazed at just how long and the details that went into building this particular cathedral.

I was honored to have met Valerie Beeby and Victor Lund-Rotcliffe during our stay in London. It is always wonderful to meet your cyber friends in person. We spent some very special time together and I thank them again for taking the time meet Dave and I in London.

The weather has been just amazing until today where the rain finally caught up with us. But that did not stop us from enjoying the city of Salisbury. BTW, I really like this afternoon tea thing! for along with the tea you are offered some wonderful cakes or other tempting pasteries that are always too good to pass up. Good thing we walk every where! LOL!

Tomorow we will see Stone Henge where I hope to get some great photos. I will be sure to have lots of great photos for your use at Fall Open Studio as well. I must have taken 300 pictures already at this point.

Until later, take care and study hard!

Sunrise And Fog On The Lake

I did this landscape manip from a photograph of Bald Eagle Lake that we live above. It was early morning with the sun gleaming through the trees and fog on the lake. It was a quiet time on an all sports lake which is usually busy with skiers and jet-skis. I did just a little manipulation of this so it is more a doodle than a finished painting so I am posting the link here.
Darrell Chitty Webinar

I looked for the posting to see what other attendees thought of this 2nd webinar on painting with oils in the way of the Old Masters such as Rembrandt --by Darrell Chitty. Can't find it.

(My opinion --from a photographer with no traditional painting background:

The information given in this webinar was good, applicable, and opened my eyes to other Painter possibilities. I'd spent most of my time in Photoshop until this webinar.

Also, from a photographic point of view, I was satisfied with both his techniques and process. I can't explain this except to say that the loss of detail in a painting always alarms me and this process allows me to get over the loss as I go.

And there is something so mystical when I try to repeat on my own work and find that it's never the same way twice. The mood and colours change.

I think I am lucky to be able to afford to see this man teach this class.

Thank you Darrell Chitty. You made my year.

Apology And Disqualification

I have replied to the Corel Contest and am not sure of Painter Talk's affiliation. I want to express my humble apologies to everyone involved, artists, Corel, friends, and people that voted for my painting. Here is a copy of my letter to the Contest group. My painting has been disqualified from the contest.

Thank you so very much for reviewing my entry qualifications. I am very sorry for any controversy and problems. My goal became to show everyone I met my painting on the Corel contest, to register them or to give them a printout where they could vote. Only two weeks into the contest, organizing the voting, using Facebook, and handing out fliers everywhere I went, turned from being a fun project to a wonderful lifeline. Instead of handing out fliers at the mall, I took printouts and a sign up sheet to the hospital. A mammogram came back positive for cancer. I showed your contest to all the health professionals, doctors and nurses. So many took fliers to post at the hospital, more gave me their email addresses to register for Corel.

An extremely real moment came when I showed Doctor Hugh Holloway at Flowers hospital here in Dothan my digital painting and he showed me his digital images of the MRI and Mammogram.

It has been a whirlwind of waiting rooms, tests, and a bilateral mastectomy surgery. All through the appointments, meetings, people have been too wonderful helpful and caring...from helping me with this project to my physical basic care needs. I suppose it was a recipe for disaster with your terrific contest. I may have had too much help.

It's only been a week that I've been home from surgery. When your email arrived about the disqualification, I sent out emails thanking everyone who voted for me, as I said I developed a Corel Email List. Quiet a number came back with error messages. I realize that some of my emails may have been inaccurate...but, I chalk this up to my 'operator error' or too helpful friends in trying to help with getting people into your system. I still believe that people were only trying to help me and all seemed interested in the digital painting on you web site. If registering everyone on my computer was wrong, I apologize. I did not do anything automatically, I entered each one on my list one at a time and with their permission after they saw my painting either on the web site or with a printout!

I did understand that having the most votes did not mean that I would win anything, only, that my painting would be judged by Corel. I'm a huge fan of Painter! As I've said, Corel's contest became a lifeline...I focused on the 'c' in Corel and not the 'c' in Cancer.

I want to apologize to any that felt I wronged them. I feel that the artwork submitted is amazing and loved being a part of it this past month and a half! Since I've been disqualified, I feel embarrassed and feel the need to make amends somehow... and wonder at where things went wrong. But again, this has been an amazing experience!

Thank you for your time, and again I'm sorry,

Judith Huey

New Showroom On Line

I joined this site but it is new and has a few kincks yet I ahd a heck of a time figuring out how to post my paintings. finally read the instructions which are kind of obscure. I like the fact that they accept videos and slide shows.
Go look and see what you think. Norma

We are all used to being on a site, paying a fee, uploading our photos and sharing them with friends. While that has served us well, we now have a site which offers all the services we know of, and more, much more! While features such as full customization,http://carmengonzalez.megashot.net/, including using your
own domain is standard, there are stuff here I have never seen any place else, including their "Smart Contests" an incredible new way of doing contest for those of us who like to play games with our photos. But what I am writing to you about, is actually the opportunity to make money on this site and we can do it several ways:
1)- We can run our own advertisement, or the site will supply us with the ads we like, on most of the pages on our site, like this guy, on his profile: http://keristuah.megashot.net/. Look on the right, where it says "My Sponsored Ads". I have been running the ads on my community (group)
http://www.megashot.net/communities/In%20the%20Garden on this site and have made about $30.00 the first month. I know it is not much, but the site is growing and it is only on one page and I have so many other pages where I can advertise.
2)- In addition to the Full eCommerce coming up, we all have Home Stores where we can sell anything and
every thing we like, this is mine http://maggie.megashot.net/mega/Products/ which is not fully launched yet.
3)- The site is free now and will remain free for another 5 months. After that, the subscription fee for full access will be less than $40 per year, with some generous free account options. If you accept my invitation and give this site a try, I will receive %15 of any subscription fee you will ever pay to the site. But please, this is NOT why I am inviting you, You need to try this place for yourself. Sure it will be challenging at first to find your way around, but that is the case when we try any new site, specially
something this huge! But if you watch these short videos here, it will make it a lot easier:
http://megashot.net/mega/forum_details.php?forumthreadId=4
Good luck and hope to see you on the site.
Please register through this link:
http://megashot.net/mega/registration.php?ref=6uww
Or if you don't like to use my link, this is the home page of the site where you will see registration

link:
http://megashot.net/
Thank you,
